PTSD and Trauma Counseling
Trauma treatment
PTSD is difficult to overcome alone. It is recommended to work with a therapist that specializes in treating PTSD so that you can feel safe and at peace again, enjoy other people's company and have the relationships you long for.
Trauma symptoms can also resurface after a major change in your life such as a recent move. If you recently relocated (expat, immigrant, international student) in an unfamiliar country or city, your sense of safety may be even more hindered.
One of the well-researched modalities used to heal from the emotional distress and alleviate the symptoms of trauma is called EMDR.
As a licensed psychotherapist both trained in EMDR and somatic therapy for trauma (Sensorimotor Psychotherapy), we will work together to explore what might be best for you. Some people want to utilize EMDR and/or somatic therapy which also deals with the physical symptoms connected to the trauma (i.e. headache, stomachache, and other body aches and tensions).
You might feel some anxiety about the idea of starting this work, and that's understandable. We will work together to move at your speed.
The first step of the process consists of building your repertoire of mental and physical resources that will help you feel more empowered and confident doing the work. I also use mindfulness-based therapy tools to create a buffer between you and the trauma.
